Person pleads guilty to sexual offenses against young males at summer program
An individual who contaminated treats with tranquilliser and distributed them to youngsters at a youth camp in the area has confessed to sexual offences against two boys who were nine and 10.
The defendant was taken into custody after eight minors and a grown-up became sick at the facility in July.
The 76-year-old, from the Nottinghamshire area, admitted guilt to a series of 17 offences when he appeared at the judicial center on Friday.
Yet, he disputed one particular crime he was charged with, which was against a young boy.
Ruben was held in detention ahead of a further hearing on November 28th.
'Candy game'
The legal representative, prosecuting, outlined Ruben's offending to the judicial body.
She stated his victims were children from difficult backgrounds who were participating in a summer program which he managed.
The man engaged in a "treat game" with the minors, the prosecutor explained, in which he would enter the sleeping quarters when they were getting ready for bed and tell them to eat sweets "rapidly".
She told the court the man had conducted this practice with the boys "over an extended period", and youngsters had previously fallen ill the subsequent day.
She said Ruben had been capable of justifying this repeatedly as the youngsters being "overexcited from fun", until his stepchild had worries in recently.
The legal representative continued: "In the summer" his family member had concerns about what was going on, justifiably.
"They chose" to investigate in the man's possessions."
The prosecutor explained objects including baby oil, Vaseline and syringes were found, and his family member contacted the law enforcement about his concerns.
She said Ruben continued to engage in the "sweet game" with six boys that night - July 26th - and they were all sick the following morning.
"Law enforcement" had not gone out by that point," she continued.
The police watchdog, the investigative body, previously told that it was investigating law enforcement's management of the events.
The legal representative said the minors were struggling to walk due to being ill, so the stepson called the authorities once more.
She said the man then engaged in the "candy game" in a area of five children.
